Sejarah pandemik demam selesema

* Wabak Peloponnesian - 30,000 maut

Seramai 30,000 penduduk Athens mati pada 430 Sebelum Masihi ketika peperangan Peloponnesia antara penduduk Athens dengan Sparta. Selain pening, gejala lain seperti ruam kulit, demam, batuk darah, sakit perut, muntah dan dahaga yang teruk hinggakan ada yang terjun ke dalam perigi.

* Wabak Antonine Plague - Lima juta mati

Wabak sempena nama Maharaja Rom, Marcus Aurelius Antoninus yang mati pada 180 Selepas Masihi. Wabak ini dibawa ke Rom oleh tentera yang pulang daripada berperang dari Mesopotamia. Ia merebak ke benua kecil Asia, Mesir, Greek dan seluruh empayar Rom dan meragut lima juta nyawa dalam masa 15 tahun.

* Wabak Justinian Plague � Kira-kira 25 juta hingga 100 juta kematian

Namanya sempena Maharaja Byzantine, Justinian dan wabak ini dipercayai berasal sama ada di wilayah Asia Tengah atau Ethiopia (Habsyah). Ia menjadi kes pertama wabak bubonik dicatatkan dan berlaku selama 50 tahun yang meragut 25 juta hingga 100 juta nyawa. Perdagangan dunia turut lumpuh.

* Wabak 'Black Death' - 25 juta kematian

Ia melanda pada zaman pertengahan Eropah dari akhir 1347 hinggalah awal 1351. Ia dikatakan disebarkan oleh kutu dan tikus. Mangsa lazimnya mati dalam kesakitan dalam masa lima hari selepas dijangkiti kuman itu.

* Wabak Selesema Sepanyol - Lebih 50 juta kematian

Ia berlaku pada 1918 dan menjadi kes terburuk pernah berlaku dalam era sejarah moden dan disebabkan sejenis virus selesema H1N1 dijangkiti kira-kira 40 peratus jumlah penduduk dunia ketika itu. Ia meragut lebih 50 juta kematian, majoritinya mereka golongan muda.

* Wabak Selesema Asia - Empat juta maut

Berlaku pada 1957, membabitkan itik liar di Guizhou, selatan China dan melalui proses mutasi dengan jenis virus manusia. Menular ke Singapura pada Februari 1957, Hong Kong pada April dan Amerika Syarikat pada Jun tahun sama. Jangkitan paling ramai di kalangan pelajar sekolah, golongan muda, wanita hamil serta orang tua yang mencatatkan kumpulan paling ramai mati.

* Wabak Selesema Hong Kong - Sejuta maut

Dikesan pada 1968, kes pertama dikesan di Hong Kong yang disebabkan jenis virus dikenali H3N2 yang meragut sejuta nyawa di seluruh dunia. Ia kembali pada pada 1970 dan 1972. Mangsa berusia 65 tahun ke atas paling ramai mati.

* Sindrom Pernafasan Yang Teruk (Sars) - 800 kematian

Dikesan di Guangdong, selatan China pada 2002 tetapi menjadi tumpuan ramai pada Februari 2003 selepas kematian seorang ahli perniagaan Amerika Syarikat dalam pesawat pulang dari Shanghai. Virusnya mudah tersebar secara pantas ke Kanada, Amerika dan beberapa negara Asia. Daripada 8,096 kes, 774 kematian dilaporkan.

* Selesema Burung

Ada banyak jenis selesema burung. Jenis paling bahaya H5 dan H7 sering menyebabkan kematian unggas dan jenis yang paling dibimbangkan adalah H5N1. Ia hanya diketahui menyerang unggas sehinggalah kes pertama jangkitan manusia dikesan di Hong Kong pada 1997. Data WHO menunjukkan 256 maut di seluruh dunia sejak 2003 dan saintis turut memantau perkembangannya kerana bimbang mutasi berlaku dan boleh dijangkiti berjuta-juta penduduk dunia.

* Demam Selesema - Meragut 250,000 - 500,000 kematian setiap tahun

Tersebar ke seluruh dunia setiap tahun dan memuncak ketika musim sejuk. Pihak berkuasa kesihatan mengesyorkan pemberian suntikan vaksin, khususnya kepada kanak-kanak dan warga tua. Amalan kerap membasuh tangan dan sentiasa sihat, menjadi perlindungan terbaik.

Its has been raining for three consecutive days.My BF slept at the bicycle parking lot last night. pity him.hope he is still there today, if i get to pick him up.later in the evening after class.

Lately i have been quite a morning person, capable of waking up before the alarm, subuh is EXTREMELYYYY early, today its at 3.05 a.m..and sunrise is at 4.42a.m.~ so much for the land of the rising sun.

Yesterday during class, i learned that learning to behave in Japan is very important.
Of course it is important everywhere in the world, but it is extra important here, in Japan.

In much simpler words, you can not be yourself..

My Alpen Adventure

Along with Mt.Fuji and Mt.Hakusan, Tateyama is one of Japan's Three Sacred Mountains and has been worshiped since ancient times. Tateyama Range is a spectacular and solemn display of peaks, soaring to an altitude of 3,000 meters.It is also one of the National Parks in Japan. The variety of its topography creates a beauty of nature which has long been the love of many alpinists. With the completion of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, linking Toyama and Nagano Prefectures, Tateyama's heights have become more accessible to us.

The other interesting point other than the picturesque state of the mountains are the varieties of vehicles.To complete the route i went on many types of mode of transportation, firstly a cable car called the Tateyama Cable Car,then rode on the Tateyama Highland Bus which i think is the only transportation allowed (no personal vehicles were seen).This Highland Bus took us from the altitude of 1000m to a highland altitude of 2500m.After spending some time Ootani walking and sliding my way through the ice, i went onto the Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus. It is said that the tunnel goes through the mountains and also the through the highest mountain the Alpen Route range which is called Oyama.the interesting thing about the trolley bus is that it operates on electricity but it has tyres ok...

Next, i went on the Ropeway. It is "one span ropeway" which does not have any supports in the middle of 1710m of extension, and fluctuates in 500m of height differences. It is called "the observatory to move" and the panorama of 360 degrees is the highlight. Great isn`t it? Aftet that, i rode on the Kurobe Cable Car.In Japan, it is the only cable car which passes underground from beginning to the end. The reason being is to avoid influenced of heavy snow in winter, and in order to keep the natural scene of Tateyama.

After all that, i again rode a trolley bus called the Kanden Tunnel Trolley Bus, which also operates on electricity. How superbly clean and fresh. As private cars are prohibited up to a certain limit, the place is highly efficient with the connectivity of the transportation and their willingness to invest in green technology is highly respected.

WHO has changed its name,because the animal is not to be blame and this influenza has become a human flu.As to the new and official nomenclature Influenza A (H1N1), H1N1 is the designation for the seasonal flu. The letter A corresponds to the type of human influenza which tends to become pandemic. The number 1 is the classification of virus strains. H is the initial for hemagglutinin and N corresponds to the term neuraminidase (two viral proteins). All influenza A viruses contain hemagglutinin and neuraminidase.

Back to School

As most people know by now, i am back to school.my subjects are mostly related to the economy, management, finance,world theories etc. pretty boring huh? i dont mind the classes, but the reading of the materials and books are really taxing..i wonder why i did not feel this way before when i was studying law.

Books, journals and articles ..oh my god..almost 100% of them are just to difficult and too impossible for me to understand.Come alone digest.Especially American books. Frankly i prefer European ( plus British ) authors compared to American.i think something is wrong with me..or are academic writings and textbooks are simply hard to understand..why use hard and difficult way to beat around the bush to come to a point? there are ample ways to put it simply but why choose to write it in a lengthy and putar belit way..??? totally berserkkk

maybe i am too rusted..i cant read good reading materials anymore..or maybe i am too set in my mind about certain theories that no matter how much i read, i reject unconsciously.or i am too obsessed with the fact that i have to understand everything before actually quoting or using something out of something i dont understand.

why do scholars write in such twisted and winding ways? dont they want people to understand they work/writings easily? is it because that they too have a limited vocabulary that they are limited in writing skills but they have to publish anyway?

i used to tell my brothers and cousins that even if u dont feel like studying, just flip the pages and slowly get the hang of the book.i am doing that right now. Looking at a book written by this old man called musgrave...A HUGE BORE.. but luckily i have this little boy who sings AIR PALANG PAGI as pengubat tatkala buntu...check him out. so very cute!

The One about Japanese Baseball

I had a chance to watch a baseball game between the Yomiuri Giants (YG) and the Hanshin Tigers (HT) in Tokyo Dome yesterday. it was my first time and i enjoyed it tremendously. YG which is also known as TOKTO GIANTS is the home team and HT is from Osaka. YG has a pair of rabbit as their mascott. At YG home games, you'll likely see the team's mascot, a half Y & G logo, half rabbit. The odd creature goes by the name "Giabbit" (Pronounced "Jabbit"). GIANT + RABBIT..hahahah

i realized something today. maybe it has been a habit but i came to realize abt it only today.i was walking to the bicycle parking space near the subway station, as my eyes, as usual started searching for my speda. i left it there overnight as i followed my supervisor and seminar friends to to Yoshii Machi, Gunma Prefecture.

the minute my eyes caught the sight of the red string tied to my backseat of the speda, i smile. there it was, waiting loyally for me to collect it.

then it strike me, why did i smile to my speda?

maybe cause its the closest thing i have now.

i actually smiled to a bicycle. how cuckoo have i gone? hahaha

My First Entrance Ceremony Spring 2009

i attended the entrance ceremony for Meiji University Spring 2009. It was only held for an hour,short but very sweet in my opinion. can u guys see the difference? the hall is simple, even the proggramme is simple. takder berleter berjela-jela tapi isi pon tarak, tak sempat letih dan tak sempat mengantuk. it ended with a small orchestra playing the school song. best gak lagu tu. i wore my purple kebaya, not knowing Meiji punya official color is PURPLE. hahaha.. org lain pakai black..i was a mascot la..hahaha..

i am now a university student.

Back

i am back in the land where people where layers of clothing, use heaters and bath in extreme hot water in March. although it was a short break home, i went through a lot of things.

i remember sitting in Narita waiting for my flight back on the 11th.i looked at so many faces walking up and down..and then it struck me..maybe someone is going back because of a death too. but we dont know.maybe somebody is going back because they have a new baby.we dont know that too..all the years that i have been traveling is always because of holidays, work, courses etc. it was my first time going back because of a death, i guess that is a shortcoming when u are not on the `same land` with ur family. My dad was a strong man, and i think he felt that his mom was given the best he could afford money, time and love before she went, so he was calm.

i also found out something else.which is going to have a huge impact in my life.
but like my mom said, be patient. everything happens for a reason and beleive in Allah all the time.


i also fell in love. well that is another story.

How did I love this movie? Let me count the ways. The locations were beautiful, and I have always thought that Italy was the place for romance - Venice, Rome etc. look gorgeous. It was romantic, so much so that if you didn't believe in destiny before this movie, you will afterwards. Robert Downey Jr and Marisa Tomei's characters seem so suited to one another, except for the slight problem that he has the wrong name! Any fool could see that they were in love from the moment they met! Love the scene when Downey Jr's character reads Tomei's mind about what she is to wear for her date. I remember watching this on Metro Tv. at that time, Astro did not exist. this movie was aired over and over again, and i never felt bored watching it.

i hope all you out there will get to watch this, i mean for those who have not seen it.

HARU ICHI BANG

i think yesterday was HARU ICHI.
it is said that when the wind blows very strongly, extra extra strong,
it is the first day of Haru- Spring.

spring is always associated with a new beginning, a new spirit.
a new life.

and it was on the first day of Haru also that i sort of lost my patience and said somethings that had probably hurt the feelings of someone i love very deeply. i was also ignored for the whole day.

pray that things will be back to normal today. i cant help but to wonder if he hurts as much as i am. and if he misses me as much as i miss him. and if he thinks of me when i think of him.

and if he remembers how we spend 2008's Vals Day.

Crisis

A close friend called to confide.relationship crisis again.The thing is with relationships are that they are never permanent.well nothing is permanent, but if we make the best of what we have for the moment, we have no regrets. because we have given the best we can at that time. After such a long time being together, but not proceeding to marriage hurts, but we cant expect our partner to stop or drop certain things for us, when we ourselves cant drop certain things for our partner.never force onto others what you dont want forced onto you!

Either except it as part of him, and cherish it or leave.Say goodbye if your dislike towards it will bother and be the thorn in your relationship in the future. That was my advice.

Updates from the trying to slim down hippo

I am writing this while drinking a cup of hot milo, with the Nikkei Weekly on my side. been wanting to read it since i got it yesterday but, as usual, it has been there.Lepas ni nak look into some homework and do some revision and retire early, so thus the plan.over these few days, i have been hibernating and sometimes not getting to see the sun at all..i am so good at sleeping..of course with help from the medication.Last nite my neighbour came to visit when she heard i was sick, which was a surprise,i thought nobody knew except some friends. i have spent my sick days reading, blog hopping, appreciating the power of silence and solitude..today i have decided to fast more..i realized i dont have to eat as much as i usually do.hahaha
what a lame discovery..hehe..i actually lost some weight over this week.hehe seronok seronok..

but, this time around, sakit tapi takder org fuss around. but come to think of it..nobody actually fussed around much when i was sick pon, maybe because i have never had any long term sickness like this one.(ni pon bukannya lama)..my mom's a nurse but compared to my dad, she is so cool bila anak-anak sakit.. and never encourage us to take even panadol for sakit yang sikit2 ni. Pops will be the one yang kalut, even though its a mere cough. Geng gagak hitam pon takder yang sakit except for gagak kecik since he has tonsillitis, but he is ok now after tonsillectomy.

okla.. need to read my Nikkei Weekly. food for my brains.food for my stomach lom lagi.. malas la nak masak..what shall i eat, i wonder.. fruits pon dah abis..by the way, sekarang strawberry season. strawberry dumplings pon ada..aduss tak kuasa!

Hari ni some friends gathered and had lunch together.Hari ni jugak, i realized that the ring yg tok bagi a few years ago hilang.Yesterday i wore it outside, and am suspecting that it must have slipped from my finger when i was removing my gloves.Kalau betul hilang.. Tok..i am so so so sorry.From the bottom of my heart. i know u received the ring from your beloved husband.Babe said i shouldn't panick.gradually things yg hilang akan muncul. tapi macam hilang kat luar rumah jer.... huaaarrgggh..
