Consumer price index (CPI) rises 2.3% in Japan

Cheaper gas fails to offset growing energy and food costs as CPI jumps 12th straight month


Japan's key consumer price index in September rose 2.3 percent from a year earlier for the 12th straight month of increase on growing energy and food prices, although gasoline prices showed clear signs of slowing their rise, the government said Friday.

The core nationwide CPI, which excludes volatile fresh food prices, stood at 102.6 against the base of 100 for 2005, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said in a preliminary report.

The pace of growth in the core nationwide CPI shrank by 0.1 percentage point from August, marking the first such drop since March, excluding a temporary decline logged in April following the expiration of a provisionally raised gasoline tax.

Energy prices as a whole grew 14.7 percent. Under the energy category, natural gas prices were up 6.0 percent and electricity prices rose 5.1 percent.

Petroleum product prices increased 23.7 percent with propane gas up 11.3 percent and kerosene up 50.3 percent.

Although gasoline prices rose 20.7 percent, the pace of growth represented a relatively sharp drop, compared with the 26.4 percent rise logged in August, and prices looked likely to decrease further in the coming months, a ministry official said.

Economic and fiscal policy minister Kaoru Yosano said there would be "a considerable time lag" until consumers can actually feel the benefit of a recent decline in crude oil prices, but called the current CPI level "healthy."

"The reason why crude oil prices declined is because the age of feverish oil buying came to an end," Yosano said at a press conference. "The outlook for global demand for crude oil seems to be weakening a bit."

The ministry also said nonperishable food prices rose 4.2 percent. Prices for cheese climbed 38.0 percent, spaghetti rose 33.5 percent, instant noodles 22.0 percent, and wheat flour 20.0 percent.

Yasunari Ueno, chief market economist at Mizuho Securities Co., said it was clear that the core CPI rise has peaked at 2.4 percent, which was logged in July and August. He said he expects the index to fall on a year-on-year basis at some point during the latter half of fiscal 2009, which ends in March 2010, due to deflationary pressures caused by an economic slowdown and a stronger yen.

"Excluding external shocks like rises in energy and food prices, there was no real inflation that results from an increase in wages," Ueno said.

"Falls in crude oil and grain prices as well as a stronger yen and deterioration in economic conditions are starting to have an impact," he said.

Isnin diramal 15 celcius.bila hujan banyakla kedai menjual payung. bila hujan jga, kedai-kedai dan bangunan akan keluarkan bekas khas untuk letak payung, plastik panjang untuk letak payung supaya lantai tak basah dek air yang menitik dari payung dan bekas untuk buang plastik payung tersebut.

Dulu, masa hujan mesti naik bas. Sekarang dah pandai naik basikal sambil pegang payung、 tapi sebenarnya kesalahan lalulintas di Jepun ni. kalau tertangkap, boleh didenda sebanyak Yen 20,000 bersamaan lebih kurang RM600.00.

p/s: ingat tak 'JUAL MINYAK?
in japanese, they have the same idiom 油を売る (abura no uru) which means selling oil. It hails back to the Edo times where hair oil salesman will chitchat with customers and potential customers,causing people to halt their task, hence unfinished all the time. simply, it means : EMPTY TALK.

frankly, not much difference. cuma time subuhnya awal.. sunrise pon awal... bukak posa dalam kol 6.05 pada mulanya dan sekarang ..as of hari ni berbuka at 5.36pm (which is 4.36 malaysian time..droooool people..)

terawih kat sini ada masjid. tapi saya takpi ke masjid la kan...saya kadang2 menjalankan terawikh di rumah sahaja. selain daripada itu..life goes on macam biasa..

tuhan pon tak suruh kita baik bulan posa je kan?
dan tuhan pon tak pernah suruh kita kurangkan waktu kerja utk bulan posa..

Something New For Me.

Everyday, as i said before, i encounter new things..yesterday i had my charingko's tyre checked. i costed me 840yen. gosh..he guy didn't even change the tires..he merely had the sparepart for the air inserter changed. i asked how much would it cost to change a tyre?

back tyre: 3500yen
front tyre: 3800yen

gosh!

as i was riding my charingko back..i encountered a man eating noodles while he was cycling! imagine that! first time!his elbows where maneuvering the bicycle..of course he was riding slow.

today, i called the ABC delivery services..to make arrangement for collection of my luggage to be taken to the airport. my luggage will be collected from my hse a day before my trip to the airport. great huh?

i just love it!

yesterday, MS told the class that we would have a break which was never scheduled in the term. weird huh. so, there will be a break from the 26th of September till classes will start again on the 8th of October.

Melancholy in Ramadhan

Many unexpected things happened this week. i saw an episode of police going after a criminal on a motorbike..was kind of funny actually..everyone gaping and the patrol car shrieking its brakes..

i also had my hair cut..only an inch off but it costed me 3,500yen which is almost RM100 i guess. cut throat!

i also bought a lamp shade. something that i have been wanting for such a long time. i guess i am like my mother. awed by lamp shades. i also found a new game better than sudoku: KAKURO..very interesting and addictive. semalam tak lena buat tu!

i also found the person that i lost sometime ago. masa entry2 yg ada unsur hilang dan sebagainya tu..i found this person..or actually rather..the other way around..

i also found out that my parents are playing cupid again. now the cupid cult has expended to my aunts and uncles too..we will see..

i found that love is hard to explain. love and hate exist together. that is why they are such extreme feelings. being too honest when in love is actually bad. being dishonest is equally bad..

but i somehow found some kind of inner peace within me in this foreign land. i just hope petty matters dont mess up my brain and peacefulness. maybe because i have wanted a break from my normal routine to find ME.and now i can. for the past 5 months, i realized that everyday..i found a trait in me that i never thought i had..or maybe was never discovered.

Hi people, i am writing from the lobby of Daichi Hotel, Eki Mae, Beppu, Oita-ken,Kyushu. Esok, insyaallah in the evening,i will be heading to Hiroshima from here,towards north on my way back to Tokyo.

so far it has been a wonderful colourful journey from tokyo-gifu-nagoya-gifu-osaka-hakata-saga-imari-beppu.

all because of sessun 18 kippu.will report more when i am back in tokyo.

DIsneyland Tokyo Lesson 2

1 have few opinion points to highlight regarding Disneyland Tokyo:

1. The ticket for an adult is 5,800yen ( its call a one day passport) - choose the day of your trip carefully, one a wrong day, the passport might be a waste.

2. The whole park is kinda old fashion. especially the characters and the parks. 1 expected better actually. They have old characters and cartoons but not the updated ones. I was expecting to see more recent characters.. tapi its more of the 80s and 90s cartoons.

3. The worst part was the show with the scientist who shrunk his kids and then blew u his baby Adam. the things was so old..the 3D animation was so-so but the movie itself was ANCIENT! and if you are late, ur cant seat on the 2nd last row of in the theater where they provide English translation on the headset because its packed all the time. they should provide more rows.

4. However, the night shows were superb except for the fact that the Disney staff keep shoo-ing you off. One say that you should stand here, and after 5-10 minutes another one comes to say that u cant be there and shoo u off again? what in the world?

5. I dont know if its because of the summer heat, but u dont bump into many characters like Mickey of Minney or Donald. i saw Goofy twice then the dwarfs, though. too bad. i think they shud have more characters roaming around.

An old friend today asked me what is the thing i missed most from back home.. for a minute it got me thinking.. what is it? it was simple question but honestly i cant think of an answer. maybe i'll ponder deeper into this matter.

OVERCOOKED?

While trying to make the most creative and grand plus ego boosting dish, everything is overcooked. too much ingredients also make the dish wrong! the result of the cooking is gorrendous ( gorry + horrendous).everybody is talking about the horrible dish and setting foot into the eatery is now scary and an uncertainty.

Denying the real recipe, trying to appear a superb cook when you are an amatuer..ohh my what a waste of time, money and effort of the sincerest group of cooks.And now, to correct and straighten the misconceptions, the image, the damage done is not easy.

all because somebody wants to become head chef..without the actual qualifications, without even brains for it. maybe only the passion that is making him rave like a maniac for power.

LUCKY

Yesterday, again my dad said i'm a very lucky person.
since i was a kid, he says that all the time,
but most of the time i just dont get it.
but know i kinda get it.

but somehow why do i keep whining outloud and
most of the time whining inside that things aren't good enuf..
things aren't perfect enuf, things just aren't enuf for me.

i got thru childhood- many memories
i got thru school-infact into one of the best schools-many great memories n many great people
i went into university-where i was schooled n learned many life lessons
and acquired many friends
i went into working life-again many great people, many friends
i have great terrific parents- they give me the utmost freedom to decide my life
i have 2 wonderful brothers - whom i sometimes dont pay attention much to..
i have a great extended family who squabble all the time but always find ways to make up.

always surrounded by people who love me, people who care.
what more can a person ask for..rite?

although my dad did mention that so far, i'm unlucky in love..
but he thinks i'll settle down once i'm done with my masters..
but he says i'm have everything else, so i am lucky.

Even that, he said i am lucky because i have had many relationships,
compared to those who had never had any relationships at all.

so i am lucky.
i am lucky.

i just need to be reminded.

my current read.

SOBA

I' ve eaten soba many times, but none made justice to the one i had at YABUSOBA. It's so delicious i wanted to eat another one but since my friend was treating me, i couldn't be so full of gluttony, futhermore i was full. we had to wait for awhile, the line was always there. u could tell from the moment u set feet into the restaurant compound that there was something different about it. It radiates some historical aura without trying too hard. its natural. And the moment i set foot into the shop, i knew this was a killer.

Later i found out from my buddy that this restaurant dates back to the Meiji Era. it started in 1880. it was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. it was rebuilt and has eversince been managed by 3 generations so far..great isn't it? i ordered prawn tempura soba atatakai (hot) and my friend ordered the sumetai (cold) soba with fish paste on top. both were superbly delicious. but i prefer hot soba..(so far)...

i cant wait to go again!!!!

Summer holidays ni rasa cam nak pi holiday to Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan. while searching for more info, i accidently bumped into some issues regarding the indigenous people of Japan called the AINU. plus they have many issues and claim towards the Japan government as they claim that they have not been treated fairly. interesting!

PEPPER ORANGE BEEF- stir fry

Ingredients:

beef, sliced thinly
kacang buncis
onions
garlic
salt
black pepper
cili api
marmalade orange jam
beef stock/seasoning
oil

Cara-cara membikin:

1. panaskan kuali
2. tuang minyak n tunggu sampai panas
3. masukkan onions n garlic -sautee
4. masukkan daging -masak sampai separa masak
5. add stock or beef seasoning/ beef cube & black pepper
6. cook till the juice starts to dry
7. add cili api
8. add marmalade jam 1 spoon (ikut rasa yer)
9. stir fly n at last add kacang buncis fry for another 3 minutes
   
10. SIAPPP!!!

Single but not looking

My most jovial and 'hakuna matata' childhood friend had this posted next to his nick on YM today.. my heart goes out to him. It hurts to know that another person is feeling down because of a failed relationship, because i too have experienced it many times..that I am sure that its pretty obvious in my previous entries. but it brought me to think.. why was it that i sulked? why is it that my fren, Abu is sad and angry, and also grumpy? why? cant we accept that it is over?

My theory is this.

1. we feel stupid.
2. we feel that we have been fooled.
3. we feel cheated.
4. we realized that we wasted our time.
5. we feel that we were taken for a ride, then suddenly dropped off in the middle of no where.
6. our ego hurts
7. we feel that all our effort is wasted
8. we feel that all our honesty were deceived.

so, we are actually angry.

1. we are not actually sad.
2. we are not actually missing them.

so my dearest Abu, u'll be ok. so many others have survived.

The Japanese have been using a little of Arabic words in their daily life (However, they don't know that)!! For example, coffee is an Arabic word. In Arabic, we say kahwa and we write قهوة .
Arabian coffee is very different from Japanese coffee. Arabic coffee smells good, but flavor is very sweet and strong! ! Please try it!!

Then, the Zero is derived from Arabic. The Arabic word for zero is cipher صفر. Sugar is derived from the Arabic word succar سكر.

Another interesting word is banana! Long, long time ago, Arab merchants traveled to Africa. It was the first time they discover banana: "This is a strange fruit, it looks like a "finger", then let's call it "finger"!". In Arabic Banan بنان means finger! Currently, the world's banana is used all over the world.
