KUALA LUMPUR 15 Sept. - Polis akan memanggil Ketua Angkatan Muda Keadilan, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd. Akin bagi merakamkan percakapannya berhubung tuduhan yang mengaitkan pasukan keselamatan itu dengan pembunuhan jutawan kosmetik, Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya.

Ketua Polis Selangor, Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar berkata, Shamsul Iskandar perlu bertanggungjawab sepenuhnya terhadap semua tuduhan yang dilemparkan dan jika gagal mengemukakan bukti, beliau bakal dikenakan tindakan undang-undang.

"Jika tidak tahu fakta sebenar jangan bercakap ikut sedap mulut. Inilah kenyataan paling merepek yang pernah saya dengar dan kita akan memanggil beliau untuk dirakam percakapan bagi membolehkan siasatan dilakukan terhadap dakwaan yang dilemparkan.

"Beliau perlu bertanggungjawab sepenuhnya dengan kenyataan yang telah dibuat dan jika gagal mengemukakan sebarang bukti, kita akan mendakwa beliau di mahkamah selepas semua siasatan dilengkapkan," katanya ketika dihubungi Utusan Malaysia di sini, hari ini.

Kepada soalan sama ada sudah ada laporan polis dibuat berhubung tuduhan itu, Khalid berkata sehingga kini tiada laporan diterima pihaknya.

Dalam pada itu, Khalid memberi ingatan kepada semua pemimpin politik agar tidak mempolitikkan pembunuhan Sosilawati serta kes-kes jenayah lain semata-mata untuk kepentingan agenda sempit mereka atau bakal berdepan dengan tindakan tegas oleh pihak berkuasa.

"Jangan jadi ahli politik yang tiada kerja sehingga asyik hendak mempolitikkan isu-isu seperti ini. Pergilah buat kerja yang lebih baik untuk rakyat," tegasnya.

Train Manners in Japan Lesson 2

As the Walkman are created in Japan by Sony, it is unthinkable for anyone not to have them. Now they have Mp3 players,iPod,iPod Nano..etc etc. and its it mostly used in the train. but sometimes..the volume is too loud and disturbs the other passangers.

I am going to the train station now. hope i wont get a seat or have to stand next to one.

Girls can transform infront of you within minutes from pale yellow skin to cute pretty long lashes pouty big eyes girls. all done in the shaking and moving train and this is one of the posters in the train to advice users not consider others and be more considerate to the other passengers! the scond poster is the latest one.

December 22 is usually the shortest day of the year, as the planet tilts away from the sun and we have winter solstice here on the northern hemisphere. It is called 冬至 (tōji).In Japan, its also called the winter solstice.

On this day, japanese have a hot bath with yuzu. Yuzu is a citrus which grows mainly in Korea and Japan.Please read more about it here.Its almost has the skin of limau purut (kaffir lime) but its not as rounded as it.

In Japan, Christmas is not a holiday observed but many companies declare it as holidays.Here its called the winter break.Its stretches up to a few days after the New Year.A few weeks before the NY, nengajou are sold everywhere. nenggajou are new year greeting cards, mostly in the form of postcards. almost everyone in Japan from students to old people write this greetings to show say thanks especially to former bosses, teachers, relatives, parents, friends etc..practically everybody. also, never forget to also send to those whom sent you nenggajou last year!

the interesting thing about the nenggajou is that you will have to post it by a certain date determined and announced by the Japan Post. this year, if you want the postcards to arrive on the 1st of January, the postcards need to be posted by the 26th of December. Then, can you imagine the speed of work of the Japan Post and the sorting they have to do? On the new years day, usually families will receive postcards in bundles and will read it together after New Years brunch..

Last year, i didn't get to spend the new year the Japanese way. but this year, i did. On the eve of the new year, the Japanese will have soba..a type of noodle which is made from soba buckwheat flour, eaten with soup made with soy sauce, dashi (japanese flavoring from fish and sometimes seaweed) and green onion. Soba is said to give the meaning of longevity, prosperity because of the long noodle...eaten with Shichimi Togarashi (Seven flavour Chilli Pepper).

Apple in Chicken Soup

Recipe for Chicken Fuji Apple Cream Soup

cooking time: 45 minutes - 1 hour
Preparation time without a maid : 15-20 minutes
preparation time with a maid : taktau

1 chicken (cut & cleaned)
olive oil
2 cups of water
2 big onions (quartered)
2 carrots (cubed)
5-6 Fresh mushroom/shitake (sliced)
1 welsh onion (sliced)
5 asparagus sticks
1 broccoli ( potong la ikut suka hati)
2 potatoes (cubed)
3 red apples (cubed)
1 chicken cube for flavouring
italian herbs
salt
black pepper

2 tea spoons of corn flour
1 small pack of cream

Part One
marinate the chicken, black pepper, a little salt and olive oil for an hour or two.
heat the pan and put the chicken in on high fire.stir occasionally till red and slightly cooked.
add all ingredients except corn flour, cream, carrot and broccoli, on slow fire. cook for about 15-20 minutes. please cook on slow fire.

Part two.

Taste the soup. season it.add black pepper and when its boiling,add the carrots and broccoli.let it simmer for a while, then mix in the corn flour.when the soup thickens, add the cream and stir softly. let the soup come to small boil. please check the salt because the cream can swallow the saltiness and you might need to add salt. salt is also essential to keep the creaminess of the soup.

Dish while its hot n eat!

Fridays have always been colorful, because of the 2 classes i have on this day and the antics of the locals on friday nites. Yesterday i went to the uni as usual and also went to the library to borrow some books.

A list of yesterday's mishaps:

1. As i was walking towards the lobby, changing my lift from the floors for graduate students to the common lifts at 17th floor, a student ran pass me n knocked me. My mobile fell and went into pieces. Luckily i could it back together.

2. The lift came on 19th floor. one person came out and i entered alone. No one else was waiting with me, as it was late. Oh God! the lift stinks like hell. that guy must have farted before he left!!! shit! i left a few floors after that n took the stairs.

3. Met a friend for dinner at the usual place, Jonathan's. they have new menus for autumn n winter. nice. but, the two girls next to our table was so noisy and was talking about IKEmen ( good looking guys in Japanese ) all throughout their conversation and shrieking, shouting, giggling ..urrghhhh..dinner spoil betul!

4. Friday nites are when Japanese officemates, clients and friends go out after work for drinks after a week of hard work (konon). waterholes, restaurants, pubs, clubs, izakayas are full most of the time.Karaokes too. Price are sometimes higher too.. and because of this, trains are usually very packed later at nite. trains also become a place where many 'action' happens. hahahha... so, last nite, i took the rapid train at 10.45pm (last train is at 12.30). The coach was filled with the smell of liquor n spirit. Men and women looked flushed and pink (red). couples grope each other and it's sick. Girls try to make sweet baby talks with some people n its sucks. Some older people are so knocked out that they have their juniours or subordinates hold them cause they couldn't stand anymore. lucky tonite nobody puked in the train (yes, i have seen that before)

5. When i came back to get my basikal (parked at seiyu), byknya basikal was blocking mine! sakitnya hati sebab dah malam, beg berat, letih, mengantuk n sejuk!! so i had to put down my bag, susun basikal2 lain- anjakkan jauh2 so that i could get mine. lepas tu ada pulak yg pedal tersangkut kat tayar basikal lain..hish hish..

6. Then when i got my basikal.. guess what was in my basket? 2 beer cans.. i really hate this. i know my basikal looks old, but that does not mean you can put garbage in my basket!!!!! i threw the cans at the nearby bin. sapa kata Japan bersih?

Then i cycled home, really slowly albeit it was cold...enjoying my new bicycle white light yg terang benderang.Last nite, it was probably 8 or 9 Celsius i guess. the moon was full and i suddenly remembered that when i was a kid i made a big hue n cry telling everybody that the moon always followed me. yesterday, while cycling i felf like the moon followed me again. the sky was bright and at 11.30 at nite, i could see the clouds. can u imagine that? it was so pretty.

It was not a bad day after all. i watched One Fine Day before i slept and dreamt of George Yummy Clooney.

Ketam n Me

Resipi Ketam Special Me-en

ini resipe utk 4 ketam bunga besaq

untuk tumisan
halia sebesaq penumbuk (blend)
3 labu bawang putih (blend)
cili bo/cili paste - 3 sudu besaq (ikut kepedasan)
2 bijik tomato
minyak masak

untuk kuah
3 ikat daun ketumbar (atau sebanyak manapun mengikut suka)
4-5 sudu besar tomato sauce
garam secukup rasa
2-3 bijik teluq (ikut saiz)
bawang besaq potong bulat2
black pepper (kalau suka)

instructions:

mula2, tumis halia dan bawang putih yaang telah diblend sehingga wangi..then, masukkan cili bo/paste. masak sehingga pecah minyak. selepas itu masukkan tomato yang telah dicincang. masak sampai tomato lembik sikit..selepas itu, masukkan tomato sauce and secawan air. masukkan ketam dan batang daun ketumbar. masak sampai air ketam keluar n pekat, masukkan garam secukup rasa.

at this point, check the spiciness and adjust by adding sugar if it is too hot. adjust with also black pepper, if the ketam punya sauce dah mula pekat, masukkan daun ketumbar and bawang besar yg dipotong bulat2. lagi byk bawang lagi sedap. instantly also, kuatkan api dan pecahkan telur dalam mangkuk yang berasingan dan tuang dalam kuah. tunggu dalam 15 seconds dan lepas tu baru kacau the kuah dan masak sampai kuah pekat.

boleh garnish dengan daun bawang or daun ketumbar. boleh perah limau tapi make sure api dah tutup, otherwise akan jadik pahit.

Ginkgo biloba, a deciduous tree native to China reaching up to 30 meters in height, it was designated the official Tokyo Metropolitan tree on November 8, 1996. Ginkgo trees are either male or female, and their distinctive fan-shaped leaves change from light green to bright yellow in autumn. The ginkgo tree is commonly found along Tokyo's streets and avenues.It is also the symbol for Osaka University. it is said that this tree is very tolerent to dust, smoke and dry conditions. interesting enuf, when the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan in 1945,the blast destroyed a temple about 1.1 kilometers from the epicenter. It was probably similar to many temples destroyed by the A-bomb—except that a ginkgo tree growing near the temple survived, with no apparent ill effects. In fact, a new temple was built next to this still living fossil.

This entry would not have photos.i have no camera now. i am writing with the porpose that one day, when i am back in Malaysia..i could recollect the cold autumn days in Japan.At this juncture, the temperature is still bearable, 21 celcius in the day and 14-15 celcius at night. its like ur sleeping with full blast aircond on a rainy night.There is no way but to bath without the hot water. Even when washing dishes at the kitchen sink, it would be unbearable without warm water.socks is a must.

its a time when all sorts of delicious food also. (1) persimmon (pisang kaki) : at the beginning of autumn..sedap!! (2) oden : macam yong tau foo (3) nabe : macam steamboat (4) muffler craze: bulu rabbit la.. bulu kambing la..macam2 la..(5) boots!: all sorts (6)sleepless nights under my futon.. (7) oyster!!! cheap sedap gila oysters!!

my next favourite food..easy to prepare..NIKUJAGA

Prawn Mee

Recipe: Penang Hokkien Mee

Stock ingredients:

1 ziploc bag of shrimp heads and shells (I used Ziplock Easy Zipper Bag)
15 cups of water (reduced to about 12-13 cups of water after hours of boiling and simmering)
2-3 pieces of rock sugar (about the size of a small ping pong ball) or to taste
Salt to taste

Chili Paste:

30 dried chilies (deseeded and soaked to soften)
10 shallots (peeled)
5 cloves garlic (peeled)
2 tablespoons of water
6 tablespoons of cooking oil
belacan/udang kering

1 pound of yellow noodles (scalded)
1 pack of rice vermicelli (scalded)
Some kangkong or water convolvulus (scalded)
Some bean sprouts (moyashi) (scalded)

Toppings:

1/2 pound of lean chicken/beef (boiled and sliced thinly)
1/2 pound shrimp (shelled and deveined)
6 hard-boiled eggs (shelled and quartered)
Some fried shallot crisps (store-bought)

Blend the chili paste ingredients with a mini food processor until finely ground and well blended. Heat up the wok and add cooking oil. Stir fry the chili paste for 5 minutes. Dish up and set aside. On the same wok (unwashed), add in a little oil and cook the shrimp topping. Add in a little chili paste, sugar, and salt. Pan-fried the shrimp until they are slightly burned. Dish up, let cool and sliced them into halves.

Method:

1. Add 15 cups of water into a pot and bring it to bowl. Add in all the shrimp heads and shell and simmer on low heat for about 2 hours or longer until the stock becomes cloudy and tastes really prawny.
2. Strain the stock through sieve and transfer the stock into another pot. Discard the prawn heads and shells. Scoop up and discard the orange “foam” forming at the top of the stock.
3. Bring the stock to boil again and add in half of the chili paste. You can add more chili paste if you like it spicier.
4. Add rock sugar and salt/fish sauce to taste.
5. To serve, place a portion of yellow noodles, rice vermicelli, water convolvulus and bean sprouts in a bowl. Ladle hot stock over. If desired, add a few pieces meat. Top with meat slices, sliced shrimp, egg quarters, and sprinkle with shallot crisps.
7. Serve immediately with more chili paste to taste.

Cook’s notes:

1. Traditionally, the shrimp heads and shells are stir-fried with oil until aromatic before adding them into the boiling water. I tried this step before and found that my “cheated” method works equally well.
2. The hawkers in Penang also blended the shrimp heads and shells after they are briefly boiled to extract all the flavors from the shell. Again, I tried this step before and found that my method works as well if you have plenty of shrimp heads and shells.

Oct. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Three people died in Japan after Typhoon Melor made landfall near the city of Nagoya, bringing winds of 139 kilometers (86 miles) per hour and stranding thousands of commuters and airline passengers.

Melor weakened to a tropical storm by evening and headed back out to sea.

One person was killed in Wakayama prefecture southwest of Nagoya and another person died near Tokyo, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said in a report. One person died in Kobe, west of Nagoya, Nippon Television Network reported. More than 7,300 people were evacuated and more than 1,000 homes were damaged or destroyed, the FDMA said.

Most train lines in and around Tokyo resumed operations after being suspended during the morning rush hour as the capital was hit by heavy rains and strong winds. More than 2.5 million people a day commute into the city from surrounding urban areas, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

The weather office lifted landslide warnings for Tokyo and surrounding areas and kept them in place for regions to the north of the capital. Warnings and alerts for strong winds, rain and flooding remain in effect for most of the main island of Honshu and Hokkaido to the north.

Direct Hit

Melor’s eye made landfall south of Nagoya, Japan’s third- biggest city, shortly after 5 a.m. local time, the Japan Meteorological Agency said on its Web site. It was the first typhoon to make a direct hit on Japan since September 2007.

Waves as high as 9 meters (30 feet) smashed into coastal areas to the southwest of Tokyo. Some streets in the capital were flooded and covered in debris as strong winds and heavy rain lashed the city at dawn.

National broadcaster NHK Television showed images of trucks blown over on a coastal highway near Nagoya and cars floating in floodwaters.

Melor was over the Pacific Ocean about 419 kilometers northeast of Tokyo at 6 p.m. local time and moving northeast at 50 kilometers per hour. The storm’s maximum sustained winds declined to 111 kph, according to the meteorological agency.

About 521 domestic flights were canceled, more than a quarter of those scheduled today, NHK said. Japan Airlines Corp. scrapped 15 flights to Hong Kong, Seoul and destinations in China.

Seiko Epson Corp. halted production at 10 semi-conductor plants in Nagano prefecture north of Tokyo, the company said.

Melor, the 20th storm of the northwest Pacific cyclone season, weakened from a supertyphoon with winds of 241 kph two days ago.

A typhoon that struck Japan in 2004 left 95 people dead, according to the country’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency. Tropical Storm Etau, which passed to the south of Honshu in August, left 25 people dead, according to the FDMA.

Melor is the Malaysian word for Jasmine flowers, according to the Hong Kong Observatory, which lists names in use for Pacific storms on its Web site.

Allo everyone.. (huhu macam ramai sgt). Semua orang macam dalam mood raya sekarang ni..but I have a certain uneasiness during festive seasons like this. At offices and almost everywhere..i think the same uneasiness exist.I was at the bank today and ramai sungguh org hantar hampers untuk pegawai-pegawai bank. i was on my way bank and i saw a lorry downloading a load full of hampers in front of an office which i dont want to mention.Some of my friends are telling me that they are receiving hampers and some hampers are being sent home.

Semalam teringin nak makan cheese cake. tapi keinginan itu dihentikan sbb cheese cake hang alot of eggs especially egg yolks to which i am allergic to. The longing for cheese cake came after watching Nigella Bites...huhuhuh

Tapi the story i would like to tell about the cheese cake this time is not mine. Yesterday when i was talking and drooling about cheese cake, my aunt told me a story about my late eldest uncle who died last year at the age of 73.After his death..his wife (my mum's SIL) who has the penyakit 3 serangkai misses his husband terribly asyik menangis, and banyak la cerita about the things she misses about the husband came out.

On valentines day, my uncle until the year before he passed, gave a bouquet of roses and cheese cake to the wife every year.. on the day of her birthday, he presented her with a new baju, comb her hair for her and ask her to wear make up, so that she will feel beautiful.. while telling this my aunt started to tear and i was holding back tears.

He was such a loving husband. He was hard to forget. I did not want cheese cake after that..sob sob..

i am very angry today. although after surgery i cant eat egg, i told myself that its already a week..ok la kot. So, dengan gagahnya pi beli murtabak. so, naturally bila beli murtabak dapat sedikit kari dan sedikit bawang merah direndam cuka (seperti gambar di atas yang bukan merupakan gambar sebenar)

When i got home, i was shocked to my bones! dalam plastic kecik yg sepatutnya ada bawang berwarna merah.. there was only air cuka warna merah! after getting all worked up and berbakul2 caci maki keluar dari mulut ini (forgive me God), my aunt told me that she experienced the same thing from the same stall on the 2nd of Ramadhan. Goodness!!

Kan lebih baik kalau dia kata bawang dia habis?? that would be better!takder org nak marah dia daripada dia tipu customers dia ngan air bawang !!

Rethinking Growth Policies in the Developing World: Commentary of Dany Rodrik's Article

The rate of development of each country definitely lies in the growth policies adopted. How these policies are adopted and what are the reasons behind choosing each policy has a lot to do with the interest and aim of the nation as well as the regional trends. Although nations rely on each other because of trade activities, but they are not permanent friends as nations have different interests and aims which sometimes are conflicting.

The obsession to have super rapid growth has been the trend in developing countries. Gradualism is not it. At the same time, economic super powers through international organizations led by them are also propagating globalization, free-market and deregulation, indicating to the developing countries, since having a reliance on the foreign investment and capital, must govern and mold their countries in the desirable manner of the investors.

The question is who determines the best growth policy now? Who determines what is orthodox and what is heterodox? Are the growth policies propagated by the international communities, which are usually the already developed nations the best recipe for the developing nations? In my opinion, these are the issues brought forward by the author, Dani Rodrik. After discussing the basic principles of economic policies that all successful nations adhered to such as sound monetary policy, integration with the world economy, protection of intellectual property, social and political stability amongst others, he has highlighted that there are instances in certain countries which are not so. There are countries that have succeeded to attract investors and achieve considerable healthy economic growth without adhering to these set of principles such as China and Vietnam. The reluctant reformers and pro-socialist countries have also achieved growth which also proved that economic growth does not necessarily have to be in a democratic environment. He thereby concluded that the consensus on these principles through the Original Washington Consensus (OWC), and which was later enhanced in the Augmented Washington Consensus (AWC) are not necessarily the best medicine for all. The weaknesses highlighted by the author in the AWC such as being too ambitious to be achieved, not realistic enough compared to the institutional and human resource capacity in developing countries, are real and eminent in my point of view.

Then a realization that there is a need to avoid one-size –fits-all strategies and put focus on country-specific strategies. It is also admitted that the World Bank and other International Financial Institutions (IFI) recognize these issues but have yet to be confronted it seriously and are still positively proceeding with the current programs. Finding out why it has not been addressed seriously by these institutions would be interesting.

The Diagnostic Approach which is favored by the author is to match policy priorities with the diagnostic signals. It is a strategy to first figure out the bottleneck or the constraint of growth and then finding out what are the causes/roots of the particular constraint and connects it to the problem. At the same time, decide what the most needed thing/action to take is. It would also be easier to rule list out the strength in the beginning so that it could be used rather than reinventing the wheel or to avoid creating growth policies which do not take advantage of strong aspects/characteristics of a situation or nation. This approach shows that individualism and specifics are important in creating the skill to identify problems objectively and the skill in solving problems without relying fully on packaged remedies like the Washington Consensus.

II. The Case of Malaysia : The Industrial Policy

What kind of growth policies have Malaysia adopted to achieve growth over the years? How did Malaysia choose its growth policies and what are the reasons behind it. I would like to focus only during the early days of Malaysia, when huge transformations/policies of high impact to achieve several aims were made, which is the Industrial Policy.

Malaysia, in my opinion started from an agrarian state with an economy depending at about 25% share of agriculture in its GDP in 1960s but moved to set it priorities to become an industrialized state because of the constant identification of economic progress with industrialization, looking at the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. This is probably the only economic revolution to date for the Third World countries to imitate and which could give a spill effect so large that it could be a fast track growth policy. It was probably the only way for Malaysia which was not satisfied with status quo and wanted a leap frog in economic growth. This strong orientation to be industrialized could also be seen when the 4th Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad announced in 1982 that Malaysia wanted to learn from the industrialized eastern countries, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, a policy later called the Look East Policy, instead of from the western bloc. The other reason was Japan as the second largest trading partner to Malaysia at that time has emerged as the second largest economy in the world. Industrialization was also to diversify the economy because focused economy especially on agriculture, minerals and commodities is believed to be dangerous for the economic stability in the future.

Malaysia even before independence in 1957 has already traded actively mostly by exporting commodities, supplying raw materials for manufacturing industry of Britain and becoming the market for those manufactured goods. After the Investment Incentives Act was passed in 1968 in the midst of high unemployment and social instability, the law boosted private investment, local and foreign as well as export oriented industry by providing various incentives, exemptions on tax and tariff protection . It also provided labour intensive industries tax relief based on number of employees. At this time, government regulations played an important role in the pattern of employment as well as the growth of the industries. Export oriented industries mushroom so rapidly that in the early 1980s, that some industry like the construction and plantations were having shortage of man power as many have turned to factories and industries for employment. Government of Malaysia launched the Industrial Master Plan (IMP) in 1986 to lay the foundation for the manufacturing sector to be leading growth sector in the economy. At this point of time, the unemployment rate was doing downhill; the world recession starting in 1983 causing commodities prices to fall had resulted in massive retrenchment in many industries especially invested by foreign capital. To date, Malaysia has three IMPs namely the first: IMP1 (1986-1995), second IMP2 (1996-2005), and third, IMP3 (2006-2020).

Why was Industrialization chosen to boost economic growth even now? In reference to the Washington Consensus, it can be seen that the Malaysian Government did follow the rules of good behaviour such as openness to direct foreign investment, deregulation, tax reform, integration with world economy etc. The difference between Malaysia and some other countries like the Indonesia and Philippines is that Malaysia still has it freedom from the IMF and World Bank to make policies and regulations. Thus probably the pressure to follow these principles did not come out of obligation to these IFIs but came out of careful policy considerations and of the need to resolve the issues of financial weaknesses and inefficient banking system as well as to insulate the country from rapid capital flight. In other words, wanting to prove that Malaysia has strong and sound corporate governance. However, how did Malaysia come to that conclusion that industrialization is the best? Although it can be seen that Malaysia tried to mimic the success of the Industrial Revolution, there are many country specific characteristics which were adopted to tailor make the policy into the domestic environment. In the beginning of industrialization also, it can be seen that gradualism and government control was practiced very strictly. Gradualism was practiced in the beginning as the Government was cautious of losing control and being taken advantage of by investors whom are far more experienced. Some regulations made by the government because of national interests and economic distribution motives in mind have been largely criticized. Lastly, the industrial policy adaptation has a futuristic dimension that is to prepare the country to be competitive in the world and not only to address problems at the particular time.

3. Conclusion

In the case of Malaysia, all the first-order principles of economic policy are in existence. Malaysia wanted to grow very fast and needed to grow fast. For that the government has chosen industrialization as the key sector of economic growth through encouraging spill effects of industrialization which are:

1. Urbanization and migration;
2. the development of small and medium industries and enterprises (creating supply linkages);
3. increase of job opportunities through encouragement of labour intensive industries ( which leads into increase of income per capita);
4. Encouraging Science and Technology in education and job/skill training (creating a good/quality pool of labour);
5. Poverty eradication and income distribution (increase quality of life);
6. Foreign investment and capital increases and etc.

To my opinion, it is seen like Malaysia did diagnose the bottlenecks and constraints in the growth of the economy before bravely pointing to industrialization as the key to economic growth, using the growth it generates to cover many bases at one time. The issue of misdiagnosed might be argued by some saying that the IMP has failed in many ways, but the Industrialization as a whole is a success although a handful business projects under its flagship such as HICOM and Perwaja Steel has failed to sustained due to many contested reasons.

IN April, President Obama pledged to seek peace and security in a world without nuclear weapons. He called for not simply a reduction, but elimination. His words awakened something buried deeply within me, something about which I have until now been reluctant to discuss.

I realized that I have, perhaps now more than ever, a personal and moral responsibility to speak out as one who survived what Mr. Obama called the “flash of light.”

On Aug. 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on my hometown, Hiroshima. I was there, and only 7 years old. When I close my eyes, I still see things no one should ever experience: a bright red light, the black cloud soon after, people running in every direction trying desperately to escape — I remember it all. Within three years, my mother died from radiation exposure.

I have never chosen to share my memories or thoughts of that day. I have tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to put them behind me, preferring to think of things that can be created, not destroyed, and that bring beauty and joy. I gravitated toward the field of clothing design, partly because it is a creative format that is modern and optimistic.

I tried never to be defined by my past. I did not want to be labeled “the designer who survived the atomic bomb,” and therefore I have always avoided questions about Hiroshima. They made me uncomfortable.

But now I realize it is a subject that must be discussed if we are ever to rid the world of nuclear weapons. There is a movement in Hiroshima to invite Mr. Obama to Universal Peace Day on Aug. 6 — the annual commemoration of that fateful day. I hope he will accept. My wish is motivated by a desire not to dwell on the past, but rather to give a sign to the world that the American president’s goal is to work to eliminate nuclear wars in the future.

Last week, Russia and the United States signed an agreement to reduce nuclear arms. This was an important event. However, we are not naïve: no one person or country can stop nuclear warfare. In Japan, we live with the constant threat from our nuclear-armed neighbor North Korea. There are reports of other countries acquiring nuclear technology, too. For there to be any hope of peace, people around the world must add their voices to President Obama’s.

If Mr. Obama could walk across the Peace Bridge in Hiroshima — whose balustrades were designed by the Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi as a reminder both of his ties to East and West and of what humans do to one another out of hatred — it would be both a real and a symbolic step toward creating a world that knows no fear of nuclear threat. Every step taken is another step closer to world peace.

Every morning ever since i received a summons for my charingko a few months a go, i parked him at a designated parking bay (roofed) prepared by the local authority in my area, near the station.

In the mornings, there are always 4-5 old men there in uniforms, arranging and rearranging the bicycles. i will always say `おはいよございます‘　～ohaiyo gozaimasu~which means GOOD MORNING..and after looking my dear bf and parking it well, and collecting my bag from the basket, they will smile and wish me `いってらっしゃい‘ ~ itterasshai- which in other words means ~ SELAMAT JALAN.JALAN ELOK-ELOK..

This is my chicken soup for my soul today. sekejap je masak.. so for Ratu Kedah, this is what has became of the chicken i told you this morning.

So, this is how to prepare it.

Ingredients;
chicken cut into small or finger size
onions n garlic
mushroom as much as u like
grated ginger (check the pronounciation)
potato
*carrot
*celery
flour
black pepper
basil leaves
salt to taste

ok, firstly saute chicken, in a pan with some salt n black pepper. i never use white pepper in my cooking, so if i refer to pepper, its always black pepper. let it saute until its brownish.

secondly, in a different pan or pot, heat some oil and add chopped garlic, onions and mushroom.I used fresh shitake. but if u have dry ones, they are equally good. just make sure u soften them up by putting them in water or if ur in a hurry , soak them in hotwater.sautee till they are brownish for about 4-5 minutes.

later, add a cup or 2 water (according to the amount of chicken n soup desired).hot or warm does not matter.along side, please add the grated ginger, i used a full spoon.also, at this point, u can add the potatoes and also carrot/celery if u like.

at this point, check the salt content, just before u dump in the sauteed chicken pieces.add in also basil and pepper. let in boil on slow fire.

at the first boil and when u think the chicken is almost cooked, n the potatoes are well rather soft, add in diluted flour. (premix flour with water). The purpose of the flour is to give the soup a rather thick texture.Because the flour can alter the saltiness of the soup, please check salt n pepper as u go along and add according to taste.

The soup should be taken to a boil on slow fire, the longer u cook it, the better it is.Hope u try n enjoy it.

At the moment it is delicious with bread!

p/s* i think its pretty obvious my soup has loads of pepper n basil.

Dikesan pada 1968, kes pertama dikesan di Hong Kong yang disebabkan jenis virus dikenali H3N2 yang meragut sejuta nyawa di seluruh dunia. Ia kembali pada pada 1970 dan 1972. Mangsa berusia 65 tahun ke atas paling ramai mati.

* Sindrom Pernafasan Yang Teruk (Sars) - 800 kematian

Dikesan di Guangdong, selatan China pada 2002 tetapi menjadi tumpuan ramai pada Februari 2003 selepas kematian seorang ahli perniagaan Amerika Syarikat dalam pesawat pulang dari Shanghai. Virusnya mudah tersebar secara pantas ke Kanada, Amerika dan beberapa negara Asia. Daripada 8,096 kes, 774 kematian dilaporkan.

* Selesema Burung

Ada banyak jenis selesema burung. Jenis paling bahaya H5 dan H7 sering menyebabkan kematian unggas dan jenis yang paling dibimbangkan adalah H5N1. Ia hanya diketahui menyerang unggas sehinggalah kes pertama jangkitan manusia dikesan di Hong Kong pada 1997. Data WHO menunjukkan 256 maut di seluruh dunia sejak 2003 dan saintis turut memantau perkembangannya kerana bimbang mutasi berlaku dan boleh dijangkiti berjuta-juta penduduk dunia.

* Demam Selesema - Meragut 250,000 - 500,000 kematian setiap tahun

Tersebar ke seluruh dunia setiap tahun dan memuncak ketika musim sejuk. Pihak berkuasa kesihatan mengesyorkan pemberian suntikan vaksin, khususnya kepada kanak-kanak dan warga tua. Amalan kerap membasuh tangan dan sentiasa sihat, menjadi perlindungan terbaik.

Its has been raining for three consecutive days.My BF slept at the bicycle parking lot last night. pity him.hope he is still there today, if i get to pick him up.later in the evening after class.

Lately i have been quite a morning person, capable of waking up before the alarm, subuh is EXTREMELYYYY early, today its at 3.05 a.m..and sunrise is at 4.42a.m.~ so much for the land of the rising sun.

Yesterday during class, i learned that learning to behave in Japan is very important.
Of course it is important everywhere in the world, but it is extra important here, in Japan.

In much simpler words, you can not be yourself..

My Alpen Adventure

Along with Mt.Fuji and Mt.Hakusan, Tateyama is one of Japan's Three Sacred Mountains and has been worshiped since ancient times. Tateyama Range is a spectacular and solemn display of peaks, soaring to an altitude of 3,000 meters.It is also one of the National Parks in Japan. The variety of its topography creates a beauty of nature which has long been the love of many alpinists. With the completion of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, linking Toyama and Nagano Prefectures, Tateyama's heights have become more accessible to us.

The other interesting point other than the picturesque state of the mountains are the varieties of vehicles.To complete the route i went on many types of mode of transportation, firstly a cable car called the Tateyama Cable Car,then rode on the Tateyama Highland Bus which i think is the only transportation allowed (no personal vehicles were seen).This Highland Bus took us from the altitude of 1000m to a highland altitude of 2500m.After spending some time Ootani walking and sliding my way through the ice, i went onto the Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus. It is said that the tunnel goes through the mountains and also the through the highest mountain the Alpen Route range which is called Oyama.the interesting thing about the trolley bus is that it operates on electricity but it has tyres ok...

Next, i went on the Ropeway. It is "one span ropeway" which does not have any supports in the middle of 1710m of extension, and fluctuates in 500m of height differences. It is called "the observatory to move" and the panorama of 360 degrees is the highlight. Great isn`t it? Aftet that, i rode on the Kurobe Cable Car.In Japan, it is the only cable car which passes underground from beginning to the end. The reason being is to avoid influenced of heavy snow in winter, and in order to keep the natural scene of Tateyama.

After all that, i again rode a trolley bus called the Kanden Tunnel Trolley Bus, which also operates on electricity. How superbly clean and fresh. As private cars are prohibited up to a certain limit, the place is highly efficient with the connectivity of the transportation and their willingness to invest in green technology is highly respected.

WHO has changed its name,because the animal is not to be blame and this influenza has become a human flu.As to the new and official nomenclature Influenza A (H1N1), H1N1 is the designation for the seasonal flu. The letter A corresponds to the type of human influenza which tends to become pandemic. The number 1 is the classification of virus strains. H is the initial for hemagglutinin and N corresponds to the term neuraminidase (two viral proteins). All influenza A viruses contain hemagglutinin and neuraminidase.

As most people know by now, i am back to school.my subjects are mostly related to the economy, management, finance,world theories etc. pretty boring huh? i dont mind the classes, but the reading of the materials and books are really taxing..i wonder why i did not feel this way before when i was studying law.

Books, journals and articles ..oh my god..almost 100% of them are just to difficult and too impossible for me to understand.Come alone digest.Especially American books. Frankly i prefer European ( plus British ) authors compared to American.i think something is wrong with me..or are academic writings and textbooks are simply hard to understand..why use hard and difficult way to beat around the bush to come to a point? there are ample ways to put it simply but why choose to write it in a lengthy and putar belit way..??? totally berserkkk

maybe i am too rusted..i cant read good reading materials anymore..or maybe i am too set in my mind about certain theories that no matter how much i read, i reject unconsciously.or i am too obsessed with the fact that i have to understand everything before actually quoting or using something out of something i dont understand.

why do scholars write in such twisted and winding ways? dont they want people to understand they work/writings easily? is it because that they too have a limited vocabulary that they are limited in writing skills but they have to publish anyway?

i used to tell my brothers and cousins that even if u dont feel like studying, just flip the pages and slowly get the hang of the book.i am doing that right now. Looking at a book written by this old man called musgrave...A HUGE BORE.. but luckily i have this little boy who sings AIR PALANG PAGI as pengubat tatkala buntu...check him out. so very cute!
